WBFO Jazz Night with the JBFO Orchestra

JazzBuffalo and WBFO partner together for an evening of celebrating Jazz in our community.  Working together to bring jazz back to its prominent place in the Greater Buffalo Community.  On this evening, the JazzBuffalo sponsored JBFO Orchestra will debut as the community’s orchestra consisting of our brightest jazz talents between the ages of 21 and 45.  The orchestra will explore the music of modern jazz ensemble orchestration from contemporary jazz composers and arrangers.  From the likes of John Beasley, Maria Schneider, Thad Jones, Village Vanguard Orchestra, and other contemporary jazz arrangers.  In addition, compose original jazz compositions with modern orchestral arrangements, as well as, conduct unique interpretation of modern popular standards.  The collaboration follows a model found in European and U.S. cities between public radio stations and orchestras with the WDR Big Band in Germany serving as the most famous example.

Two of Greater Buffalo’s outstanding jazz musicians, composers, and arrangers will serve as founding Artistic Directors for the JBFO:  Mark Marinaccio and Tim Martin.  The recent orchestral tributes to the Beatles and Michael Jackson demonstrated the tremendous artistic arrangement skills of both.  WBFO radio personalities will join in on the evening to MC the event.  A historic night of reunifying WBFO and Jazz in the Greater Buffalo Community!
