Friday, August 30th | 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM

“Driving Home” by Michael Lee Jackson is a part of Hotel Henry Art Walk: Summer Denouement

This collection of photography is the culmination of several cross-country trips through contemporary America. Through his lens, Michael Lee Jackson brings us with him on his drives through the rural wreckage and small-town beauty of America now.

His intention is to remind viewers that the bubbles most of us occupy are also echo chambers, and there are many people out there living vastly different lives.

West Corridor Orangery | Garden-Based Art Installations | Hotel Henry Art Walk: Summer Denouement

Friday, August 30th | 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM

Featuring:

“Drawing a Blank” by Lee Cannarozzo

Visible through the windows of Hotel Henry’s West Wing is “Drawing a Blank.” This installation is a garden plot in the shape of a trapezoid that appears to be a rectangle when viewed through a camera from the marked window. If you disregard the perspective of the camera, the illusion vanishes and the plot once again appears to be a trapezoid. Aside from being a visual parlor trick, “Drawing A Blank” is a commentary on how context and photographic framing influence one’s perception of land-based works of art. Cannarozzo will be giving an artist’s talk at 7:00 pm.

“Sanctuary” by Lyla Rye

In all of her artwork, Lyla Rye aims to disrupt conventional experiences of architecture through strategies of transformation. At Hotel Henry, she will exhibit “Sanctuary,” an interactive sculpture situated in the building interior. From the outside, the structure appears to be a makeshift or transitory shelter made of tarpaulin. It hovers above the ground to allow viewers to climb inside and discover an unexpected interior.
